Scaling Campaigns with Lookalike Audiences
Lookalikes still work best when the seed quality is strong, the creative is specific, and the team knows when to broaden.
Lookalike audiences are not a magic scaling lever. They are a way to help the platform find people who resemble a useful source group. That means the quality of the seed matters more than the label on the campaign.
Build better seeds
Purchase value, retention, repeat purchase, high-intent lead quality, and category-specific behavior can all create stronger seed audiences than broad traffic lists. A small but qualified seed often beats a larger low-signal list.
Pair audiences with creative angles
Scaling fails when the audience gets broader but the creative stays generic. For each audience expansion, I want creative that makes the product promise specific enough for a new group to understand quickly.
Watch the signal
When CPA rises, I check whether the issue is audience quality, creative fatigue, landing page conversion, or tracking noise. The answer decides whether to widen, refresh, rebuild, or stop.
